Make Some Extra Cash Selling Old Appliances

Thinking of getting rid of your old appliance for a newmodel? Before you consider throwing away the used appliance, you can make some easy money with a couple of ways to sell it.

Whether you’re moving or need to get rid of an old household appliance to replace with a new model, think twice before leaving it out on your curb on garbage day. You can make some easy money selling an old appliance.

Depending on the condition of your appliance you can make some good money or at least have an easier way to dispose of it with some benefits. The first thing to do is consider whether an appliance needs to be replaced depending on the condition and if you are financially capable of investing in a new appliance that is within your budget.

Once you’ve committed to letting go of your appliance you can list it online to sell to someone locally using Facebook Marketplace, local buying/selling groups on Facebook, Craigslist, or placing an ad in your local circular. For listing photos, it’s highly recommended to clean the appliance the best you can to improve the appearance and the value so you can make more money.

Details in the listing should include the condition, year, model, dimensions, and pickup or drop-off for delivery. Noting all the details in your listing will lead to more inquiries and you can even choose a delivery method that is convenient for you with minimal moving if the customer comes to pick it up from you.

If you can’t find a local to take your used appliance off your hands, you can look into finding a used appliance dealer to be refurbished or sold at a low price. You can also try to call local appliance shops to see if they want to buy your appliance depending on the condition.

Having an older appliance might be hard to sell and if you’ve exhausted all the selling options, you can sell the parts to local repair shops and appliance technicians. Call around to see if any of these shops are interested in paying for your parts and you might be required to bring certain pieces in for appraisal.

One of the last-ditch efforts on making money from a used appliance is scrapping it for metal that can be lucrative despite being the last option. Some scrap metal shops have started paying double for the metal in2021 compared to 2020 and you can find your options with local scrap metal shops.

Though you won’t be making cash, you can get a tax break if you donate your old appliance with a donation receipt from Goodwill, Salvation Army, or Habitat ReStores. Another option is recycling your used appliance for a cash reward that is applicable in 18 states with the Arca Recycling program. In some cases, there are certain state programs that will offer a rebate for purchasing a new appliance if you choose to recycle the old appliance.

You might want to explore certain options if you just want to find free appliance removal through making a donation, scrapping for metal, or recycling old appliances towards new appliance purchases. Hopefully, you’ll be able to get rid of the clutter of old appliances while making some easy money.
